A Rollin' Gospel Revival Meeting

So, I went to church on a Monday night – I guess that’s what you do for a revival meeting – it doesn’t matter what day of the week it is, church is in session!! Doug Pagitt, Tony Jones, and Mark Scandrette are touring the country doing “The Church Basement Road Show: A Rollin’ Gospel Revival Meeting.” These guys take us back to another century – 1908 – when itinerant preachers were traveling the country leading revival meetings. Specifically they portray three men who traveled together one historic summer – Brother Duke, Professor Hawthorne, and Preacher Withee. While the historical dramatic presentation was entertaining, and the knee slappin’ music was fun – it was all a verhicle for peddling books – as they unashamedly proclaim. Truly, it’s a “glorified” book tour. And, a successful one at that as far as I can tell – my friend and I bought all three books and plan to start a book club this summer to discuss them.
