That we may be one

Everything changes when the old walk and talk with the young
Everything changes when the rich share and care for the poor
Everything changes when what’s been divided joins to become one
Everything changes when we pour our love out more and more
Lay aside our differences, lay aside our pride, care for the broken, stand by their side
Give up our petty battles over politics, culture, environments – stop taking sides
Cross over boundaries, tear down walls
Abandon this life as we know it, this false reality
Let’s open our eyes to the unseen notions of all for one and one for all
Join the hope of heaven, the new humanity
Jesus is our one for all
Jesus is our all for one
Jesus died once for all
Jesus gave it all for one – one purpose, one goal

In the midst of the conversation online about the emerging church, I pray we soon will be united in spirit, intent on one purpose, and humbly consider others as more important than ourselves.

this is that last prayer of Jesus for His disciples…that they would be one. How far have we strayed from this Way that Jesus desired for us. this is our hope that we would gravitate towards this, despite our differences, but sometimes it seems with all the divisive-ness, that there isn’t much hope. None the less, this is my ever pressing desire, to see these stupid doctrinal walls torn down and maybe we can all hop on the trampoline together (thanks rob bell!) that would be beautiful…and hopefully it is something that we can achieve! good words elizabeth. keep ’em comin!

Jeff, I think the real challenge is “despite our differences.” Can we truly be one with so many differences? I’ve heard the expression that Jesus prayed for unity not uniformity. You have been a gracious example to me of seeking and offering this kind of fellowship.
