Holy Human Hybrid
“We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God. It was all given to us by God’s own power, when we learned that he had invited us to share in his wonderful goodness. God made great and marvelous promises, so that his nature would become part of us. Then we could escape our evil desires and the corrupt influences of this world.” 2 Peter 1:3-4 CEV
The divine nature – part of us. How can this be? Is there more to me than flesh, bones, blood, fat, electical and chemical impulses coursing through my brain – consciousness and uncounsciousness? Is there something “other-worldly” about me – something that can’t be detected or described by normal scientific methods?
In the realm of child development and gender roles there is an ongoing debate about the role of nature vs. nurture. But what if we can change our nature? For instance, a sc-fi scenario might go something like this:
“She was transported to a remote location and given a blood transfusion – all her human blood was replaced with alien blood. The alien blood had been uniquely designed to be compatible with human DNA. When she was returned to her home, she had no idea she was different, but she was…”
Perhaps, instead of a blood transfusion – we receive a spiritual tranfusion: our old nature is removed, put away, killed and we receive a new divine nature. I think this is what Paul is referring to in 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
